Stretham Handbell Evening, Jan 2013
Posted: 17-Jan-2013
The handbells by candlelight at Stretham Church on Sunday 13th January was a delightful evening. Arranged by Peter Binns and the Stretham St James Society of Bell ringers to raise funds to refurbish their own handbells, it was well supported by both ringers and non-ringers.
The audience were greeted by some well struck tower bell ringing as they took their seats. The 1st Little Thetford Brigade Belle Plates opened the programme and after a shaky start entertained with recorder, belle plates and song. The almost professional Bottisham tune hand bell ringers followed with a selection of harmonious tunes that set everyone nodding and foot tapping. Mulled wine, tea and light refreshments followed.
The second half of the programme was similar to the first part finishing with the Fordham change hand bell ringers who rang a course of Grandsire Triples which was evenly struck and provided a contrast to the tunes which preceded it. All in all a successful evening.
