Ely District Outing 2015

The Ely District outing on Saturday 11th April 2015 visited six towers on the border between Suffolk and Norfolk, and included towers in the Suffolk Guild, the Norfolk DA and the Ely DA. Thanks to Sue Marsden for an enjoyable day out. Here are some photos, thanks to Ruth Bramley and Geoff Grayton. Click on any photo to see a larger version.

The first tower was Lakenheath (6, 13 cwt) in Suffolk, and it was raining.

Next we went to Brandon (6, 7 cwt). Still in Suffolk, and still raining

On to the Crown Hotel in Mundford, Norfolk for lunch. And the sun was shining

Outside Mundford church (6, 6 cwt), In Norfolk, and in the Norwich Diocese

Carved pew end in Mundford church. The ringing chamber is very small, with a trap-door for access, so we took it in turns to go up and ring.

Methwold church (8, 12 cwt) with its distinctive spire. Still in Norfolk, but now in the Wisbech District of the Ely DA.

The porch and spire at Hockwold cum Wilton (6, 6 cwt). Another church in Norfolk and in the Ely Diocese

Ringing at Hockwold. Barbara, complete with face painting from an earlier event, is helping Nick, our non-ringing visitor, to ring in rounds.

Evening sunshine at Eriswell (5, 3 cwt), the last tower of the day. Back in Suffolk, and the Suffolk Guild, where we started.

Ringing at Eriswell. Everyone had a go at ringing the flighty treble, but some of us found the tenor more difficult to handle
